Ever heard of an injector flush?

Has anyone ever heard of an injector flush? What about flushing the power steering to prevent leaks?

My dad called me and asked if he should have the dealer perform these tasks. I told him I've driven class 8 trucks for 14 years for over 1,000,000 miles and I'd never heard of it. I told him I'd check here to see if anyone had heard of these things being done. I guessed it was a jiffy lube tactic to milk more money out of him.

Both have become more popular as vehicles get built cheaper. The p/steering on the 3rd gens tend to wear faster than in the past.Changing out the fluid can only help since there is no filters in the system. The injector service would depend on the price...........I have seen them in the hundreds...........waste of money at that price.

There is a fuel system cleaning machine called Motorvac, designed for use on the big trucks, but I have used it many times on diesel pickups, and it works very well. Never tried it on a common rail engine, but as finicky as those injectors are, I think it would help quite a bit. I don't think I'd bother unless the truck has over 100,000 miles, or a running problem.

As far as the power steering fluid flush, yes all fluids break down over time, and also absorb grit and wear particles. I think changing the fluid from time to time is a necessity, same as transmission or differential fluid. Again, it's not the type of thing that needs doing twice a year.

My first thought was "injector flush", is that a new drink at D Q?

I've removed injectors and had them pop tested and checked for spray pattern, but I'm learning every day!!

The cost to have the injecters removed cleaned and bench tested by a Quailified Bosch Tech should be around 300-400 dollars. Then you know if they were actually dirty or not.

Do not do a injector flush. Waste of money. Yes if you have excessive carbon build up around the tips of the injector it will remove some of it. But may not remove all of it. It also will not tell you if one is failed or not.

PS flush. Not a bad idea. the manual states when you require one. All they are doing is removing the old fluid and putting in new stuff. Should be around $100-200.

Power steering flush's are very simple to do yourself. Suck the fluid out of the reservoir with a turkey baster. Put new stuff in and start the truck and circulate the steering wheel back and forth. Suck the fluid out again and repeat. Should only cost ya about $4-5 in fluid and a few minutes of your time.

10-4 on that ...Just don't use you wife's baster, buy your own...or you you can just unhook the line to the cooler, drain it, fill it, start it, shut down and repeat....

True. But I hate undoing those lines. I don't seem to have enough bends in my arm to do it comfortably.
