From the looks of it that is a Honda, problably stock (naturally asperated). That leaf blower problably puts out more air than that motor can take in, or put out, which is problably why it helped boost the HP on that motor.

Now that I think about it, I have to go put our leaf blower on my lawn mower and see how it'll do..... Hey even if it dosn't get more power, it'll blow the leave's outa the way.

And why where you digging around on a honda site???
Not a honda site, It's one of the best vehicle video sites out there. Lots of clips of drag racing diesels and stoooopid human tricks. A few babe shots too.

Found a web site that sells blowers not for this particular application. But I thought it might work. Anyone else have any thoughts? fanam.com

That's why I was wondering about some way to suck the air through the filter before the turbo to help with spool up as well as torque on the low end say up to 1800rpm. I'm looking for economy not 500 hp not that some version of this might not help. Like two big filters with 500cfm blowers on each? Can you get to much air in a diesel and reduce economy?
After you satisfy the oxygen needs of the fuel, all extra boost and compression is just additional work load on the motor.

I thought I read somewere about a turbo that had an electric motor in it to help spool to get rid of some of the Lag. I think it was on a cat engine. Has anyone heard of this or tried it on a cummins?

A lot of air..

If you are looking for some instant boost then all you need to do is connect one of these to a 5-hp.12 volt direct current motor or a hydraulic motor with a 12-volt power pack and accumulator.
Use a 3-way swing check valve so when the centrifugal blower starts it closes off the inlet to the air filter and spools up the turbocharger.
Hydraulic would be better because a 5 hp DC motor would draw around 100 amps @ L/R.

You could always stick a APU/ GPU in the bed and start it like a turbine.

looking for economy not hp

The fan I found is AC and variable speed. www.fanam.com R series fan. Is there any way to monitor fuel economy onboard on a 97 Dodge diesel? If I could see what my MPG were doing instantly I could adjust the air flow to get the maximum economy as I drive. But I would have to be able to monitor instant MPG. I know the newer trucks have the computer doing it.
