Small Block Chevy - blowers

alright, school me. Ive got a 305 fuel injected throttle body in my 57. Came out of a 91 camaro. approx 35000 org miles. And im looking for more power. She just aint got enough to push this brick. So, what am i looking for and what would be the best set up for it??

engine swap is out of the question. i would kinda like a 454 tho

oh and what about the bigger throttle body?

91 had the tpi 350. your best bet would ge a centrifugal supercharger. u would prolly need to upgrade the fuel pump, ecm and injectors. larger tb would definately be a good idea

more air, you will need more fuel. gas engines dont like to run lean like diesels
forget what i said about the tpi 350. forgot they had those. you could go w/ a roots blower w/ the other said mods

well, changing the ecm aint gunna be a peice of cake. It has to be # specific to work with my wiring harness. surely possible, but where to get them and how much do they cost?

anybody else?

oops. not the whole ecm needs to be changed, just the chip. they have custom chips in summit, starting @ 389.95

You can get performance without having to go supercharged. You're best bet is to go to some camaro forums and look around there. I believe that engine is an L03 305. There are some very fast 305's out there that started out just like what you have there.

We rebuilt a totaled 92 rs camaro that had that identical engine. Later sold it to a local kid who now has it running in the high 13's with just bolt ons and a gear.

I suggest an 8-71 Weiand. That should get the job done.

Have you tried the usual stuff like cam/heads/gears/etc.? Blowers aren't exactly cheap and they can get expensive if you do a custom dyno tune (which IMO is 10000x better than a mail order tune). They are certaintly fun though. The biggest question is what do you want? Stupid low end response or more top end performance? For low end I suggest a roots style (Kenne Bell is my choice) cause they spin up really fast in the low rpm's and get the power now. For top end I recommend a Paxton or a Procharger. They do their boost on an almost 1:1 ratio with RPM so they dont come on as hard on the bottom end as a roots blower would but they excel on the top end charge after the roots falls off.

Why is everyone else on this thread rated as a good person and I'm an unknown quantity? Well look at that, 10,100 posts.

Most supercharger kits that I have seen for these fuel injected application are all inclusive. They will have everything needed to bolt on the blower and get you back on the road. Custom chip and all. At least the ones that I saw at the local speed shop did. I say a blower or custom turbo setup is just what you need. Some spray would be cheaper, but the blower is cool

Check you're fuel pressure, That will make or break a tbi engine. The fuel pressure should be about 12-15 pounds for max performance using the stock ECU. These engines are notorious for not having enough and suffering top end HP losses.

What transmission do you have in the car? What is the rear end geared?

Another option would be trying to find a tbi 350 to drop in place of the 305. With just a chip change in the ECU everything will be ready to go.

heh, well i stuck this fuel injected motor in my lifted 57 chevy truck. She's got a 4 in the floor with a 205 transfer case going to a dana 44 in the front and a full floater corperation 14 bolt in the rear with 3.73 gears.
