Drove a Duramax today

I test drove a stock '08 dually with 45,000 miles today and I couldn't believe what a dog it was. This is the first one I have ever driven but all I have ever read is how quick these Duramax V8's are. Are they really this sluggish or am I just spoiled by my bombed cummins?

I drive an 05 duramax daily and it is by no means sluggish. Dont get me wrong i love my cummins, but i have no complaints about my ranch rig at all.

Ive driven several, 02, 03, 04.
We, (Girlfriends truck) currently own the 03 duramax), and
it pulls good. Pretty zippy. The 02 was stock and I thought it was faster, by the old "seat of the pants dyno".
For a truck with an auto trans, it does pretty well when I haul with it.
May be u did just get a dud.
I test drove a 03 Dodge, several years ago, before I bought my 97. I said "WOW, what a Piece." and left the dealer. Maybe it was a dud.

Geeze the 08's are supposed to be a pretty peppy rig. I've driven a few DM's and they like their RPMs up there a bit more than I am used to.

I don't like the motor compared to the Cummins. I guess I'm a real diesel lover.

i have driven 2 and they were miserable. you had to stand on it to get to move and the turning radius sucks. but, they were early model dmaxs

I test drove a 2010 D-Max dually before I bought my '10 Dodge. I thought the D-max ran pretty well, by far not a dog. The ride was very smooth too. I just couldn't stray from the Cummins.

Too true. I call it Grader steering. It takes a 3 point turn to make a corner.

Everything feels like a dog if you have a 'bombed' Cummins...

I've driven my buddies 04.5 d-max. He has the Edge juice in it, and its somewhat quick, but no cummins. I must say though, for a dually, it does ride like a cadillac. And he brags about that all the time, but I personally think a truck should ride like a truck.

man these things are peppy as sin

for being stock, but again a stock truck to a modded is no comparison, case and point my stock 05 against my old 500 horse 12v

no comparison

I drove one the same day I bought my truck and felt like it couldnt get out of its own way. At work, we have all thre... 'Strokes, DM's and Cummins. The Cummins are the oldest and they still run the best.
