This comes with a 2.7L I5 Diesel engine. Not by cummins? Then by who? What are the stats with this engine?

How large is the engine? Dodge should put in in the Dakota to compete with the Liberty.

I drove one from Rock Springs, Wy to Sioux City, Ia. The seating and steering wheel position is horrible. I had back and butt pain for the entire trip.

What's the old saying, "It's like driving the box that the truck came in."

They weren't designed for comfort. But they get great mileage. Now if they can just put that engine in my old Jeep Wagoneer, that would be a powerhouse.

I still can't figure out why they didn't just use this engine in the Liberty and other D-C products. Seem it would have been easier. Nice units, but a bit different than other vans.

The Sprinter engine has been plagued with EGR valve failures . I wouldn't want one .

"plagued with EGR valve failures"
That's odd, esp since they work so well in Europe

OTH, the VM engine in the Liberty seems to be performing well. No noticeable problems so far. It's funny tho, when you realize they've been using this combination (Grand Cherokee) in Europe for a number of years.

Sprinters are garbage!!! FedEx cancelled a national order for something like 25,000 of them. EGR failures, numerous electrical issues, brakes at 5,000 miles, tires at 16,000 miles..... the list of problems I heard from the Ohio District Vehicle Maintenance Manager was ridiculous. He said that he was very happy the order was cancelled.

My UPS man took delivery of one a year or so ago. He despises it. Wishes he had his old UPS truck with the ford 300 six back.

I doubt that has anything to do with it. The cetane is higher in EU than here. Ask AlpineRam.

As to the ULSD, we've been using it since 2004. Conoco/Phillips has been producing it since 2003.

Now, I heard something last night about them using a chain drive and that is where many of the problems lie. I guess I'll have to settle for a Jeep diesel next month.
