Diesel Mechanic Salaries?

Hey Fellas

Not to offend anyone, but I was wondering how much to Diesel Mechanics(Pickup trucks, Transports) roughly make an hour, or yearly? I am thinking about taking a Diesel Course through college(as well as a friend of mine) and we are trying to find a general number, but we can't. Now I live in Ontario, Canada, so I know there will be some differences. I will be taking a 2 year course, getting my Diploma, and all while doing an apprenticeship.

Any info is greatly appreciated

Without schooling I am currently pulling down $15/hr, after schooling I will be getting $25/hr and when I end up taking over the business I will be getting the full shop rate of $50/hr (probably will be up to $65/hr or more by the time I get it. I can go work at the local truck stop for $23/hr or the custom Ag equipment fabrication shop for $30 plus travel benefits (gotta send a mech with the machine to where ever it ends up which can be anywhere in the world)

And yes, our government likes statistics.

Hope this might help.

Consider turning wrenches for Catapillar or another heavy equipment company.

Dinner, what "Hair" and "Colorado" are telling you is EXCELLENT advice. There are thousands of places you can work on a diesel engine. But, once you have seasoned out working for a Caterpillar dealership, you can pretty much write your own ticket. I am an industrial field service technician at a Cat dealership (work on gas compression, drilling rig, locomotive...etc..)
Warning: Once you get Caterpillar Yellow on ya, it soaks into your blood!!... Get cut and you WILL bleed yellow!!!.. You'll wake up one day and realize you're a walking billboard, Cat beltbuckle, Cat sunglasses, Cat ballcap, Cat ink pen in your pocket, Cat wallet, Cat boots, and you will be one of a select few with a CAT Diesel Power sticker on the rear window of your CTD powered Dodge!!!.. hahahahahahaa....

I just had this conversation with my #1 son; he'd rather make $60+ /hr wrenching and fabricating in one or our businesses than go for a B.S. and hope for $50K+ /yr.
