diesel mechanic?
Im currently taking a 2 year course in a Medium/Heavy Duty Truck Technician program. The school is geared towards semi's mostly but I would like to someday work on off road heavy equipment. I have already learned so much stuff in just the couple weeks I have been going there, it realy is amazing how much stuff you will need to know. The way I see it is like this. You take your 2 year program and complete that, you want to get ahead in the game and make decent money? Then you will ALWAYS be attending some sort of school as long as your in this profession. Trucks, engines, computers are getting more complicated as the days go on, if you stay stationary and just work the same job doing the same thing day in and day out eventually technology will be so far ahead of you you will be lost in the mix, quick. I like to be challenged and I love working on anything that has to do with transportation/equipment so I think i'm here for the long haul. I can't wait to actually get out the in "real world" and start getting challenged.
But as mentioned before tools are key, and they are not cheap. I bought a decent sized MAC tool box(13 drawers) and just my first set of tools for the first year and i'm already over $3,000. I will still need a larger box & more tools as the year goes on. And not to mention all the special tools you will be needing. Say you work for CAT, Volvo, Cummins, ect. They will provide a certin special tool but there are some things you just got to have for yourself.

Im not a diesel mech, but there are a few well known colleges, such as wyotech, UTI, just to name a couple. Im sure some of the guys on here can give you more info! As far as money goes, if its what you want to do and you enjoy it, money is just an added benefit!! Good luck!
