DIESEL FUMES

Ok Im new... this may sound REALLY stupid but I have a new 2003 4 door 2500 and was wondering whenever I stop, I can really smell the diesel. Is this normal,? truck only has 3000 miles on it. Its also an automatic and this happens no matter where I get my fuel. Thanks for any help...Dave

Re:DIESEL FUMES

It's not exhaust fumes. Check this link too:

I thought the same thing when my truck was new. You're smelling engine oil fumes. I don't think our engines have the crankcase fumes vented into the intake system like gassers, hence the fumes. They'll go away as the oil ages, and it'll return after your next oil change.

Now there's a "cure" for the smelly diesel exhaust.

Standing inside the Dyno shop (to get better pictures) when HeberRam does his runs.
Talk a bout a "big black smoke cloud",
blowing black boogers for a week afterward.
Probably took 2-3 years off my life, but ;D

(shop is mainly for ricers, so the dyno is "back in".
Not the best setup for Diesels (shop used to have white painted walls )

Re:DIESEL FUMES

Yeah, just extend the crankcase breather hose into the cab and breathe deeply. I'm telling you guys...it's an aphrodisiac! How did that old aftershave jingle go? "There's something about a Aqua-Rotella man....."

Re:DIESEL FUMES

Hey phox,
Did anybody call the fire department swearing the building was on fire?

I would love to have seen that. I've got a diesel tractor that may have lost a head gasket. Fired it up before I knew it was blown and looked like the barn was on fire. Neighbor called me asking what the cloud was from. Gotta good laugh out of it but now I am :'( over the repair.
