Diesel Fuel - #1, #2, Premium, Blended

Just looking for some clarification on the different Diesel Fuels. What I do know, or think I know #2 is your basic straight diesel. Blended is a #1&#2 blend so it wont gell up in the winter.

How about the "premium" or straight #1. Is their a performance or milage increase with this Premium diesel or are they just after some extra cash.

I know traveling across the country you can feel a big difference it seems in how one tank full or diesel pulls compared to the next.

In Virginia pumps must be labeled with the Cetane number also.

I know I get better miliege from #2 than I do from #1. It doesen't make since, but that is what I have found.

Yes it does make sense as #1 fuel is lighter in density than #2 in order for it to flow at lower temperatures. It's the price that makes you think you should get better performance.PK

Well let me ask a question. Should we run #1 or #2 in our trucks?

You should use #2 in a Cummins Dodge. #1 can be used in certain circumstances, check your owner's manual.

Re:Diesel Fuel - #1, #2, Premium, Blended

Found this on Mobil's site:

Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel No. 1
Our Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel No. 1 is often used as a blending component to winterize the No. 2-D grade. This is the fuel you should use if you live in an area with abnormally low temperature conditions. Compared to the No. 2-D grade, our Low Sulfur Diesel No. 1 has a lower viscosity, and generally provides higher cetane number and better low-temperature operability for your vehicle.

Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel No. 2
Our Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel No. 2 was formulated to be used by any diesel-fueled vehicle on the road today – including yours. Compared to the No. 1-D grade, our Low Sulfur Diesel No. 2 provides higher fuel economy, power, flash point, viscosity and lubricity for your vehicle.

Premium Diesel Fuel
Compared to the performance of our Low Sulfur Diesel No. 2, Mobil Premium Diesel Fuel contains a multifunctional additive package that provides:

A "Superior" rating on Cummins L-10 detergency test
30% Improved Lubricity
Up to 2.5% Fuel Economy Improvement
