Curious about Toyota Hilux diesel

hmm sounds impressive..maybe i'll reconsider my statement...it would be nice to see it in some towing action though...anyone got vids other than the top gear promos?

And if you compare what a small 4-cylinder sedan put out back then, it was right in line with the times. Try a wiklopedia search on "1980's oil crisis" and you'll see why...
As for the entry on the hilux, check this: The big news for the 1984 redesign was the introduction of the Xtracab two-row extended cab option. Also two diesel engines were offered, the 2L and the turbocharged 2L-T. The diesels were discontinued in the U.S. after the 1985 model year, for unknown reasons. I'll hazard a guess: The Oldsmobile 350 V-8 diesel...!
Anyone else agree?

This is a nice looking truck. Toyota
I want to import one of those---That 3.0 TD would be tremendous.
Fact is, with the Low Sulfur Diesel and new regulations, we may actually have a chance at seeing these in our country soon.
I really wish Nissan & Toyota would focus on bringing a 4-cylinder diesel truck here before they build another V-8 Heavy Duty truck...

In Canada there are getting to be a few imported vehicles from Japan. They have to be older than 13 years or somthing like that. I could probably buy a Hilux tomorrow if I wanted. There are dealerships that specalize in this type of thing. A friend of mine is into Japanese cars and picked up a Nissan Skyline GTR last year from one of the dealers in Edmonton. Right hand drive of course.
There is actualy one Huilx in town, never taked to the guy but I see him around. I will chat him up one day.
There is also a head cracking problem with some of the older engines, cant remember wich ones but one of the smaller ones.

The diesels are everywhere in Thailand. Very popular are the Isuzus that say DMAX common rail all over them. Also popular are the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi turbo common rail diesels. These are all small trucks too.

yes here in calgary they are more and more common from Japan. RHD and minimum 13 years old or whatever the rules are for importing. I've seen a hilux crewcab pickup, 2 door and 4 door landcruiser type hilux's.
