Curious about Toyota Hilux diesel
 

Just curious if anyone has specs on the Toyota Hilux diesel. What sort of mileage are those rigs getting and how much power? I assume there are turbo and non-turbo versions?

hilux diesels are super rare... at least here in the USA.

I've only seen one real life example and that was at a toyota dealership long ago.

was in the import parts business for 15+ years and sold a ton of toyota parts. don't ever remember getting calls for hilux diesel parts. loads of std hilux parts. tuff as nails motors.

I had that exact truck. Same color too. Wasn't totally amazing, but then again it had manual steering, and now ac. I kinda like those two things.

From what I'm reading the new Hilux can get about 34mpg. Do they sell these in Canada?

The 2007 model here in Japan is getting aroung 57Km to the gallon. Ill poke around and see if I can find any tech specs in English.

The excact opposite what the Rams are here. When ever your driving around here you will see a Hilux and every time it's a diesel.

I thought it's the same than Tacoma in US?

Here's my friends 2003 4x4 5spd Hilux, 101hp, 2.4 litr turbodiesel, gets 23-33 mpg with his 32.5x11.5-15 BFG AT tires. His allways driving with the hubs engaged.

It's a 2 seater ext cab and there were me+ three my buddys and our atv's on the back.[coffee]

ps: We have newer and bigger ATV'S around here, but none of them can't really beat my simple and rough BigBear! That BB with a crossbar and winch is mine, 2001 4x4 350 and I love it. Never gonna trade it.

I wish I could find one~

i own 2 toy hilux quad cabs in nicaragua, 1 2002 and 1 2003 great trucks,gutless but get the job done i woul say i get about 25mpg daily. im driving up hills and on dirt all day ,if i get it on the pan am highway i probably get fewer mpg because there geared pretty low 120 kph is pretty much maxed out(80mph)i wish they sold them here for a get around truck

yea did u read that in 81-83 they had a diesel but get this capable of 62hp!

And if you compare what a small 4-cylinder sedan put out back then, it was right in line with the times. Try a wiklopedia search on "1980's oil crisis" and you'll see why...

As for the entry on the hilux, check this: The big news for the 1984 redesign was the introduction of the Xtracab two-row extended cab option. Also two diesel engines were offered, the 2L and the turbocharged 2L-T. The diesels were discontinued in the U.S. after the 1985 model year, for unknown reasons. I'll hazard a guess: The Oldsmobile 350 V-8 diesel...! [duhhh] [duhhh] [nonono]

meh its an ok truck...more of a novelty than anything...drive it around empty and go ofroading a couple times and start alot of convos about it because of the top gear ads...other than that I'd be scared to fill it up with luggage from the airport and get up a hill...heck put a full size american (or canadian haha) family in it and the thing will not move

Absolutely not true. I rode in that truck with the 4x4, 2.4L Turbodiesel and a five speed, and it would haul just fine. We loaded 12 (yes, twelve) guys into the bed, two in the front, plus assorted tools and a rifle behind the seat, and fly down the road at 100kph with little trouble (except the wide eyed farmhands in the bed holding on to each other for dear life!) All of the farmhands were solidly built Zulu men, around 5'10" to 6' tall. There weren't any heavy duty type american pickups where I was -- the Nissans, Toyotas, and Isuzus did all the heavy work, usually with a small diesel or gasser v-6.

I thought it was interesting -- the little Ford Courier pickups there looked like the last generation of Rangers over here, blended with the older Mazda B2200 trucks (before they were rebadged/trimmed Rangers) of the late '80's. Very few Ford trucks on hard working farms there -- most were Toyotas or Isuzus. The SAP (South African Police) used bright yellow HiLux diesels with a steel box and interior cage for patrolling in most rural areas. Many of the trucks had added armor plate to the insides of the doors and back of the cabs for extra protection, and they could really haul! I was passed by one, loaded with officers and "subjects" while doing 130kph on the road to Durban one day. No, we weren't going downhill, either.
