anyway, i am in the same situation. we have an 05 6.0 that has had no problems whatsoever (25,000mi). i am thinking of replacing my 02 7.3 (which is chipped etc. with no problems for 80k) with a new CTD or 6.0. i like the 6.0 a lot but am not positive its the motor i want in my next truck (power doesnt really come on until 2k). i know the cummins is proven etc. but what i am concerned about is how the trucks themselves hold up vs. the motor. the 5 speed auto is awesome though. i am interested to hear what everyone else has to say about this... just thought i'd throw out my limited experience with our 2005 6.0.
regards,
chase
on edit: my close friend has an 04 CTD HO with crazy larry, mcleod twin disc, 150gph FASS, AFE stage II, straight pipe, etc. and has only had one problem- he had to have 6 injectors replaced right after he got it for leaking.
It is interesting to me that the only person who got offended by my post owns a ford. I'm not talking about EVERY ford, and I'm happy there is at least one person satisfied with their PSD (and yes i did know that navistar makes the engine my point is ford uses unproven technology) I am going off of my own experience with ford (yes I have owned a few) and have had problems with every one. I'm not going to argue which engine is better. It's not my fault ford is almost bankrupt (low stock prices, whatever) because of bad corporate decisions. ANY company that tells it's customer's to deflate their tires so they dont pop is not too bright. (I know the tires weren't made by ford they were made by firestone.) I'm not meaning to be rude in any way and that wasn't my intention in my last post either.

ALL the Dodges I've owned have been (knock on Wood) trouble free..except the 01..it had a Transmission leak at 200 miles.

Bottom line: If ya don't mind having your truck tied-up at the Dealer for repairs..buy a Ford, it's a nice Truck wrapped around a lousy engine... OR get yerself a Dodge..an "acceptable type Truck" wrapped around a GREAT engine.
How come you diddn't comment about this post?

EDIT: In my original post I said the 7.3 is a good engine and thats what you have so why did you get upset in the first place? Ford replaced a proven engine with an unproven one. Dumb

I've been a diesel technician for 15 years. I worked on & rebuilt Cummins / Cats/ Detriot's/ IHC's. The Simplicuty of the Cummins in-line six that is set up in the Dodge is unsurpassed. It is truely a small replica of the Big Rigs. I bought my CTD because I planned on keeping my truck beyond its payoff. I new that I would be working on it one day. Pop the hood on a ford PS or a chevy DM. Ask yourself, Is there room to work? Look at the water pump or turbo down pipes on either models. You'll definately see. Simplicity. Oh, one other reason I bought my CTD. If I know that if I can get a chain around it, I'm gonna pull it.......
