Cummins powered Speedboat

Need some info here and this is a project half way complete so that being said ,Please dont start saying this is a bad idea or cant be done. My friend has a 30ft Warlock offshore type boat. It had a turbine engine and would push well over 100mph. So being that a turbine uses the same amount of fuel at idle as full throttle he is changing over to a Cummins. Motor is a 24V and 15k miles. Bad choice with the VP and electronics in a boat . So we agreed the P-pump conversion is what he wants to do. I need info on what we can remove (ie) o2 sensor and such .Tach will be a given. engine will be ran through a two speed gearbox and into a speedmaster outdrive. What parts will be needed for this swap and who do i need to call. This will not be a bombed motor just a reliable constant speed engine for the most part. I will post up some pics later.

Thanks
Jeff

It is easier than you think to do...You just need to raw water cool it with a heat exchanger and aftercooler. Figure your mounts, some gauges, wiring for starter, or even cooler air start, then align engine and gear to shaft. Most time consuming thing will be the motor mount fab. The heat exchanger and raw water cooling stuff is all bolt on and some hose. If you have and questions let me know. I have been in the marine engine trade a long time, and have seen much more complicated stuff.

You may try looking at this link as they have conversions kits for 6BT engines.

Thanks for the links . BCB depends on how long your boat is .Last i talked to him he was chopping the transom out to add 2-3ft to the back. Not sure what kind of gearbox he is using .But rigging up a 5spd would be pretty cool.
Im sure the stack will exit out the transom somewhere. like a regular exhaust.

I have a 25 ft. boat with a Volvo diesel which looks very much like the Cummins in my old '92 W-250. The Volvo is turbocharged and develops 200HP at the crankshaft. It has all the characteristics of a Cummins. Super fuel economy, great torque for take-offs. It drives a dual prop outdrive. Top speed on my workboat is 40 MPH. (see my photos).

My family goes down to florida every now and then for vacation and we will usually end up going deep sea fishing...last time we went, the boat we were on had twin cummins turbo diesels running it....ohhh it makes me drool even thinking about it! It was fun to see the nice trail of smoke we left as the captain throttled up after we got out of the harbor! Good luck with your project! Hope it works out good!
