Cummins in a chevrolet

hello everyone, I have a 1993 one ton four wheel drive chevy pickup with the worthless 6.5 turbo diesel motor. I have been pondering this idea for a long time and I have finally decided to drop a cummins in it this june or july. I am looking at the 12 valves, seeing as how they don't have all that computer stuff. I have seen chevrolet pickups with cummins at diesel shows before so I know it can be done. Does anyone know where I can find information on what I will have to do, or does anyone know what I will have to do? Any information would be great.

Go to fordcummins.com. They specialize in fords but they are coming out with a new website soon called chevycummins.com. They have the motor mounts, adapter plates and the know how. I want to do a similar project on my GMC and called them. It sounds pretty extensive, but well worth it.

'93 is the most desirable year of the 6.5 TD because it has a mechanical injection pump. That '93 is worth more than a newer truck in similar condition to the right buyer. You might come out ahead by selling the '93 and buying a similar vintage Dodge with a 12 valve Cummins already installed. Certainly a heck of a lot less work!

I agree that if power is what you want, it's cheaper to just swap in a Cummins. Reliable power out of a 6.5 requires a lot of money.

i'll agree the 93 was the best year to have, and beings it's a 1-ton it should have the 4911 pump, those are the cream of the crop so to speak.

I have no regrets about my conversion. My truck is the military version of a 1986 Chevy K30. I will probably do a mid 90's 2500 4x4 Suburban in the future. I fabbed most everything for my conversion but Autoworld sells mounts if you don't want to build them.

I don't have any affiliation with them so I don't care, but what have you heard?

that their stuff is not up to snuff seems to be made cheaply and not as well as it could....not enough R & D or maybe to much because now they are just doing what it takes and not going that little extra to make the swaps perfect
