Cummins in a Camaro?

What do you guys think about that? I have a Z28 Camaro and have been contemplating putting a 5.9 in it. Of course I'd build it for speed. Was just wondering if this was a stupid idea. I guess I have just become a diesel addict. I'd convert my triumph to a diesel if I could.

It's possible, but you'd have to do a lot with the front suspension, considering the weight of the Cummins. Why make a camaro go fast, any one can do that... Making a 7600 pound truck go fast, that's another story.

Good luck, tho... Keep us posted!

As tall as the Cummins is, you have to run it "hoodless" unless you make it a dry sump oiling system and lay it on its side.

Being a Camaro Z28 owner myself I would love to see that done. I'm converting my 2000 Jeep TJ to a 4BTA so the big cummins can tow the little cummins to the playground.

do it! Even a stock CTD would make that thing fast as hell. I've always wanted to do the same.

Do you think a tall cowl hood would make it work any better? I'm talkin like a 4 inch or 6 inch.

Next time you have a thought... just let it go!

Seriously, though - the Cummins is way too big, way too heavy and makes way too much torque to be a good choice for a fast lightweight vehicle.

I don't even think a 4BT would be a good choice.

An aluminum 502 would weigh half as much as the little in-line 360, and develop 600HP & 700ft-lb of torque all day long on 93 octane - while virtually being a bolt-on proposition in comparison.

My whole thing is, gas performance is what EVERYONE is doing. I want a high performance diesel car. Audi is now racing a diesel car against gassers and kicking their butt. I'd like to have the first Camaro converted to diesel, ok maybe on the first but one of.

I doubt you could get the frame to hold that sucker in there.
not to mention the brakes that would be required.
Tire specs to hold the weight.

I think it would be cool but I dont see the point.

I'll go with this quote
"Next time you have a thought... just let it go! "

I don't think that a CTD and a Camaro are a very good match....you wouldn't even fit the engine with a cowl hood.....maybe an 18" cowl!

For what it would cost, you could have a very well matched LS SBC that would far and away out perform the CTD in a Camaro. 500 hp out of an LS isn't a very big deal these days.

It may be ridiculous, but if someone wants to put up the dough, I'm ready to see a Cummins powered Camaro.

Guy over on TDR is putting a 4BT into an 84 Camaro, looks good, but even the 4BT is way too tall. Mostly at the front of the engine compartment.

You're also steering from the rear of the cart, not the front like in a car.
