Corvettes, diesels, truth & the internet
The following link has an interesting topic, however, the author goes too far in his description to really be truthful. Look at the last sentance (as well as the performance statistics) and you'll see that it's probably a made-up idea.
If nothing else, it's something to keep us honest with what we discuss in here. What do you all think?

It is kind of hard to believe, even if offered as an option. Corvettes can achieve pretty good economy with the gasoline powerplants. It sounds cool, but I will not believe it until I see it!
This is one of the entries of that page. Clearly a misinformed individual.
A 5.7 litre engine CANNOT produce 675 foot pounds of torque. The crackpot that produced this fiction did not do his homework. Don’t be taken in by this article. Happy April Fools DAY !

A 5.7l Diesel engine could very easily produce 675 ft/lbs of torque. Look at the 5.9l cummins 600+ from the factory. I don't really see gm doing that, but i guess stranger things have happened.

Hey guys...its a April Fools joke.
Though that wouldn't even work anyway, because GM already knows that repowering Gas engines to be diesel doesn't work in the long run, they won't go back down a path they've been before.

i can not see this happening. GM would ruin the Vette with a diesel, enough people dont like diesels as they are in trucks already.
to put one in one of the most well known and popular american sports cars, would be suicide.

The article says "developed in cooperation with Isuzu" not "repowered gasser". Do you really think a diesel manufacturer as sucessful as Isuzu would let GM do that? A repowered gasser wouldn't survive with 675 ft.lbs., I'm sure GM knows this. The old repowered engine didn't generate much output, big difference.

MYTH !!!! Only Ford repowered a gasser

Okay then if only ford re-powered a gas engine to diesel then how do you explain the Olds 350 Diesel... basically stock Olds block withe diesel compresion. same casting as the gas block with minor changes tothe mains (but definately not enough added).
