When junkyard wars first came out, with the cannons, and then they started to make different oddball stuff, that was very interesting. Now They just have too many people, glamour and unfitting variables invloved unlike how raw it was before. BTW would you know how much the dana 60 front axel weight it can support, extra 350-400lb engine and the heavy 600lb transmission would add a good amount to the already heavy front end. But the transmission would put some of the weight in the back b/c its almost in the middle of the truck.

Well talk about your irony. Today the shop I do work for called me on an "emergency" job to fix one of their industrial sand blasters. This is basically a flat bed semi trailer with a small factory built on it. And way in the corner buried beneath all that machinery was the beast that powered it all, an 8.3L cummins motor! Complete with HX-40 :-) Well after the motor was pulled with a forklift, found a couple things wrong with it, blown head gasket, the turbo's impeller was hittin the housing HARD, metal flakes in the oil. None of which is a good thing. Further inspection revealed a piston with a hole in it and every other one was at least chewed up at the sides.

What surprised me, it's not horribly bigger than the 5.9L. ,,,I think I could make it work. And what happens when you roast a piston and chew up the cylinder walls? You knock out the sleeves and get new cylinder walls. Too cool. I want one lol. In a pickup, oh yes,,,it will happen. The rebuild kit cost me 3200 bucks though, well cost them, it's on order, going to put it back together friday when it comes in,,,expect pictures!

Hey Smokinfive, could you take some measurements like, where the mounts on the motor are, the bellhousing mounts on the engine to the front of the water pump, and I guess thats about it. I have some width, height and length specs but I;m not totally sure where they are referenced.

BTW, I did some photo shop pictures of 1generation trucks with side view pictures, ( Had a ramcharger, gone now but lookin for a 1st gen to shoe horn one of these beasts into) and stretched it about 8inches. I know, tons of work to get an extra fender, cut, and graph on an existing one, plus the hood and the frame needs to be stretched as well. I was thinking, stretchin it 8inches and pushin the engine back 2 more inches so the weight isnt so concentrated on the front axel. But then again, this is really unpractical to do, the 8.3 swap would be pretty hard as it is.

I KNOW somebody did it to a Ford- I saw it on eBay. VERY cool rig. The coolest ever is still the 5.9 into the '38 Chevy, though.

Sure will guys, like I said, I'm not back there until friday, but I'll get some measurements and pics and let you know I know that stock hp is 240@2200 RPM :-) on this one at least, and it does have an inline pump on it, but behind the DV's there's a difference where the AFC housing would be. I'll get pics, just looks like it has a different middle section on it.

If it makes 900lbs of tq at 1400rpm, around there I seen at the Cummins page, well that would be 900lbs X 1400rpm/5252 = 240Hp at 1400rpm, now if one could turn the rpms up to say 2500 or 2800rpm and keep atleast 700lbs of tq at those rpms, Make atleast 350HP. But then again, bombing it would just blow those numbers away.

Ripper, the parts didn't come in on friday so unfortunately I wasn't able to get the pictures or measurements, but I do have the parts now so on monday I definately will. I can tell you that after seeing the pistons on the 8.3 mine for my 5.9 that I have lying around look tiny! imagine that. I'll keep you posted guys.

Monster Garage just had a new show last week. the all-women build that didn't get finished. They destroyed the car in a huge furnace.
