The coolest thing ever.

Today I heard what I thought was a rig pulling up to the store I work at. Heard a jake brake through the concrete wall so I assumed. Looked out, it was a early 90's F-350 Crewcab DRW with 6" stacks. Didn't sound like a power stroke so I naturally inquired. HE HAD AN 8.3 in it! And a 13 speed! Wicked truck. I wish I could've gotten a ride in it but my boss was looking a little red in the face after I was drueling for 30 minutes in the parking lot. lol. Anyone ever seen something like this? I got a kick out of it. I want one! (with a 14L )

Just for kicks, how much does the 8.3/14L motors weigh? And I'm pretty sure the 8.3 uses the p7100 injection pump? does the 14L if so, that mean that you can slap in a #10 and have some fun? lol. yeah I'm dreamin.

I think an 8.3 weights ~1500lbs.

As long as it is a C8.3 6CTA it uses the P7100, and TST makes plates for them

We use them in tractors and combines. (I'll be having some fun when the warranty runs out , I wish)

I could see a 8.3 swap possible, you might have to, wait you probably have to cut the firwall, add a body lift, and push the engine a little back so the weight isnt so concentrated on the front end. It would be cool to do a swap like this, but the weight is probably the biggest problem on the Dana 60 front axel. Also the 9 speed eaton the guy used on the TDR forum, weighs just about 600lbs. So now you'll have almost 2000lbs of engine/tranny combo alone, compared to 1100 cummins and 250ish auto or manual tranny = about a 600-750lb gain of weight.

The 14L, oh forget about that, that beast weighs 2900lbs, maybe you could drop it in the bed of a Dually, stretch the frame a little so it can fit and run a transfer case to split the power to the front and the rear.

I dont think the 8.3 has compression brakes, or jake brakes like a Big Rig though, but they do have exhaust brakes which in some cases, does sound like a jake brake, just not as effective.

might as well drop a ISL in there with Jake brakes , same size , more h.p and torque. and it will not have the EGR, Cummins use up the clean air credits on the ISC and ISL engine , and it also has the VGT turbo .

Thing is the mechanical 6CTA 8.3's are cheaper, easier to make more power, they have the P7100 pumps and did I mention cheaper.

Oh yeah, that was awseme, he didnt take it too fast though, basically no suspension, kinda like a tractor or a bulldozer. Also I dont know about a 9+ speed fuller eaton behind the 5.9, but I think that and the Allison are the only kind of transmissions that can go behind the 8.3 . Would be cool to have a 350HP 1000lb tq engine with that kind of transmission, and the effects it will have after a few bombs.
