Smile Complete emission delete and crossing border into USA

I am looking at deleting my emission system as it has failed and is currently not driveable. Not covered under warranty 2019 Ram 3500. I have only had this truck for 9 months. I have been told that deleting will improve my performance etc and be better for my truck. If I repair it that it will just continue to be a problem. I don’t do a lot of long distance driving but do tow a horse trailer and travel more in the Spring and Summer. I am in BC so it is legal to drive without it. But I have been told that it will fail emission inspection which I can’t see being a problem for me as I don’t intend to sell it. Someone mentioned that if I am travelling in the USA from Canada that if I get “caught” and checked that my vehicle will be impounded. I am looking for more information on this and if anyone knows who I should talk to about it. Still trying to get through this tangled Mars’s with the dealer. I don’t feel I should be responsible to pay for this at all as I have done everything that I was told to do. FYI this is my first diesel truck. Appreciate any advice.

Aside from the issue of deleting in general just how are you going to get caught? I am unaware of vehicles entering the US being checked for emissions at the border. Once past that I suppose there is the possibility of a road side emission check (though I have never seen one), but am very unsure how a state would even begin to think about checking the emissions of an out state vehicle much less an out of country vehicle since some states/areas do emission checks some don't and the ones who do may do it differently. In Colorado all they check for is opacity (for diesel engines) nothing else. In Colorado it is also not state wide where the testing is just certain portions of the state. I have never seen or heard of impounding a vehicle for failing an emissions test. In Colorado at least when you go get tested and it fails it just fails you need to get it fixed or you cannot register it/renew the tags for it until it passes unless you get a waiver (which may be difficult to get if it is deleted as there are rules that have to be followed to get a waiver).
The US does have Federal emission standards and some states follow the CARB rules (California) instead at least in the past have been stricter than the Federal requirements. However an out of country vehicle would not need to follow either of those and I seriously doubt a US leo or epa is going to try and enforce another countries laws whatever they may be. If the vehicle is licensed or registered in the US bit of a different story but I still think most of the above would apply your problem would more likely arise at the time of registration, renewal or sale not just driving around.

Above is certainly not gospel and only my opinion and experience

If deleted, you won't pass a vehicle inspection in BC anymore either. The gaping hole in the system is there's normally no reason to have an official inspection done on a personal vehicle.

I know our cops can send you for inspection - often appearance/noise/tire-poke reasons. Not sure how thats handled state-side with a canadian truck.
