chevy or ford?
B.S.
I've owned 3 IFS GM trucks and never had a single issue with any of them. The last one was an '01 2500HD. Trust me when I say I beat them off road. Big tires, lots of power, and a heavy right foot. Nothing ever broke. I never even had to have my '01 aligned in the 5 years I drove it.
If there was a truck with a weak front end it would be the Dodge I drive now. Look through the 3rd gen posts and count how many times a day someone is complaining about something breaking on their front end.
I try to drive around speed bumps because I don't like to feel the front end bottom out when I crawl over them at 1/2mph.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that this truck will take more money to keep the suspension running than any of my GMs ever did.
As far as which "other" diesel engine I'd choose,it would be the Duramax without a doubt.
Despite what all the Cummins cheerleaders say,the Duramax has proven to be a very reliable, powerful engine.

I would never buy a Ford. Not to mention the crappy fuel mileage they get. The Duramax gets pretty good fuel economy from what I hear. I think all 3 truck brands look good in their own way, so that's not a factor. The front end of a Chevy can be beefed up, aftermarket parts available. The Duramax is also a fast engine. The Chevy (GMC) has a lot going for it. If there were no Cummins, I'd go Duramax hands down (well actually, in that case I would probably get myself into a sports car before I bought a diesel truck).
I'll take a new 08 Ford F250 or 350 SRW CC LB with a p-pumped 24V, compound turbos behind a suncoast built allison automatic. The best of all three. Is that asking too much! Yeah, I know it is.
Hmmmmm Ford screwed me over pretty good with my 05 that I had for 4 months(long story about a frame issue that would not let the body flex and it caused fenders, bed to move and even caused the handle on the A pillar to bend into a C and this was on 2wd ranch roads with less than 1000lbs---FSE said it if it hapened again they would just adjust everything again) but I like the vehicle outside and inside. Had a couple of Dmaxs --great engines and trannys but the 4wd system does not work well for me. Went through a couple of front ends and my Dodge has 78k now and has never had to go back to the shop.
If I had to choose it would be the GM product--Ford and it is sad but they are dead to me..

If I had to choose, I'd go with the Ford line of trucks, especially the Powerstroke. Most Ford trucks have strong engines for good towing capacity. They are also somewhat more reliable with
better performance.
Both the Duramax and Powerstroke are pretty good options, but Ford has their loyal following for a reason. Good luck with your truck choice!
