Certain big rigs with BIG THICK STACKS???

Guys lately at least in my area (NJ,PA) it seems that truckers are putting some big thick stacks on their trucks. I was on the PA turnpike and about 10 carlenghts back I saw and heard this rig. When it came up along side of me it sounded like a military C130 Hercules. It was a sweet sound. Does anyone know what exactly how they acheive that real deep sound?? I am trying to figure out what size stack they were using too. It certaily was the best rig I have ever heard.

Re:Cetain big rigs with BIG THICK STACKS???

I have seen 8" and 10" stacks on Big rigs if thats what you mean. Our farm has a KW with a n14 select in it and it has 10" stacks and sounds like a Dodge CTD with a metal trash can for a stack :

they sounds good but can you imagine a set or a 3500 DODGE I think people would think you were trying to make up for something

You will not achieve the larger deep tone you would get with a N14, or any class 8 engine for that matter just by putting the same size stacks they have on your Dodge. The displacement of the engine has everything to do with the sound.

so in other words if you like the sound of a big rig with 8" stacks you have to get the 10" stacks for your CTD to sound the same :

Not EVERYTHING.

Changing Diameter, resonator, placement of muffler, and thickness of pipe has alot to do with it also.

I heard the Deepest sounding truck when at Muncie. it was an '03 with dual 6" (7"?) Stacks, and you could hear that truck coming from 1/4 mile away.

The truck with the 8" stack has a very close sound to what a big rig has, but without the loudness.
