ISX for the big trucks, all the way. I've driven enough ACERT Cat's to be fed up with them. Repairs take twice as long, motor uses more fuel, and twice as much to go wrong on a Cat nowadays. Early C15's were nice, but a Cat has always been thirsty, and the newer ones keep right with that.
I guess my company is having good luck with the Volvo's....

Exactly. Don't tell me you guys are prejudice. Maybe some people like having a truck that leaves them on the side of the road. It's time we all slowed down and stopped to enjoy this country's great scenery from the side of a highway!

I work on Cat off road equipment everyday. I still stand by my statement, "Caterpillar, frustrating mechanics since 1925.". Don't get me wrong they got some nice stuff and some cool technology but dang, some of their designs just make me want to wring the engineer's necks! Although I have found that a C18 in a D9T does sound pretty dang good hehe.
I'll stick to my Cummins powered trucks for now. I'm partial to the big "C" like everyone else on this forum.

Dont get me wrong I love my 5.9L cummins and I like the other cummins engines like the Big cam 300 and 400 CTD's. But I know of a few cats out there (425HP) that will striaght out dance...
In my opinion if you are heavy hauling say in a class 8 truck I think a Cat is the only way to go...

you better check that again! The C12 is 12 L (732 cu in) and the C13 is 12.5L (763 cu in)
3406E came in both 14.6 and 15.8L (the 600hp was 15.8)
The C15 was 14.6L from 1999-2003. And 15.2L was called the C16. When they switched to Acert the 14.6L was dropped. Links provided.

i love my cummins but we have 6 cats on my boat 4- 3406 gensets and 2 3508 MDE. even though there smaller than what the ship should have they have 800 bhp stock. im trying to get my command to let me turn the 700 lbs of CO2 for fire fighting to 700lbs of NO2 to "fuel economy". i would love to see a 175' ship plane out

The C-16 is 15.8L, and is not the ACERT motor. 15.2L is the C15 ACERT engine, that is directly from the links provided. C-16 was a completely different animal.
