It depends on what it is in and what year. For a pickup truck, cummins. One of Cat's big advantages is that they build more than just engines, they build machines like excavators, dozers etc. However, I don't like the newer Cat emissions stuff so I would choose a cummins where that was a factor. Depends on the application to me.

Overall I have to say Cummins; all of their engines are good. The big Cats are good, but the small ones have issues, then there's the 3208. Look at the old trucks for sale in the big truck trader or something like that and see how many of them have Cummins in them. You hardly ever see old big rigs with Cats in them, though it could have been because that Cummins produced more engines.

In the current offerings, I think there's a place for each. Hard to vote with the frame work provided.

I'd vote for Mack as well. You see a lot of old Mack engines still running too.

Give me a 4 an quarter CAT in the big trucks and a 5.9 CR in the little trucks

I love my lil cummins rams they do awesome work for lil trucks ..but my 94 freightshaker fld120 has a Cat 3406c with 1.5 million on it ..it was rebuilt at 1.2 million and sounds better than new..my brothers 3406 e is needing a rebuild at 865k but he hauled alot of 4-7 axle beam trailers..we had a few cummins 400s and all had heads off by 500k and full majors by 700-800k..so for heavy hauling I would say hands down CAT ...You dont make money sitting on side of road repairing truck..

I can't seem to fit a Cat C-13 in my 3500 so... Cummins it is.

Philabuster 06-02-2008 11:41 AM

Why wasn't the Powerstroke included in the poll?
