Ive been lookin for a first gen 4x4, and all but have given up. So im considering some later stuff as well. My questions are, did 94 models go to the VP inline pump? are they all electronic? when did 24V start? I read endless LP failure probs, whats the deal? I might go for a 94- 96 If I see something good for the right price.

'94-'98.4 12 valves all have the mechanical P7100 injection pump. The 24 Valves with the electronic pump started mid '98. The 12 valve of choice is a '98.4 5 speed. You get the P7100 with the quad cab and interior updates. Happy Hunting.

 

Are the P7100 pumps prone to failure? or from the LP going bad. are the 24V a lot more balsy?

 

No failures in the p7100 pumps also known as the million mile pump. The 94 to 98 used a mechanical pump, no lift pump. 12valves are easier to get HP from and Now I am partial to 12v's as I wouldnt own a 24 with thier known problems and fuel economy, Now I have my fire suit on so fire away you 24v guys Goodluck,,Rick I also have a great 12v 94 in the classifieds right now also,it is not a 4x4 though. You say no lift pump? on 94/98. Just the injector pump pullin fuel? Now I know why the guy was tryin to convince me to convert my VE to VP on my 93.

 

No the injector pump does not pull,, there is a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine that is mechanical so therefore it does not suffer failures like the elect lift pumps. Goodluck,,Rick

 

Hey apache, on www.dieselram.com there is a guy who just listed a 97 4x4 with 99k miles in the 94 to 98 truck section. Sounds like a fair price he is asking, I do not know anything about it so check it out. Goodluck,,,Rick
