Question Is This Bull?

I stumbled across this, a book for turning over industrial diesel generators, but I figure it's too good to be true, like most sales pitches. For 20 bucks, what do you think?

I don't know if they are any good but I have seen the same "offers" for just about everything on EBay. I always wondered what this great system is too.

What I wanna know is, why hasn't an electrician written the same type of book? It shouldn't take an engineer to figure out how to convert a 3 phase generator into a single phase. But hey, if it's only $20 then why not see what the guy has to say?

welder: maybe because the electrician has some work and no time to write a book
If the parts lists in there are good why not. Also 20US$ for a pdf download- this guy can make money with it.

My suspicions as well. If there's so much money in it, why's he telling everyone else, especially since he says this is a limited opportunity (while no one else knows about it)? Kind of like those infomercials you see if you stay up too late.
Nice to dream I guess, as long as my money stays in my pocket.

True...a good electrician has enough work to keep them busy all the time!

Kinda like the "Make money stuffing envelopes" pitch.

Send them your money, and they'll send you a pamphlet describing how to place ads in your local paper to get other people to send YOU $$$$ to get information on "Making money stuffing envelopes".

As a generator mechanic for the last 13 years I can tell you that there is nothing to converting these units. As for the an electrician writing a book--the ones that I have worked with do not have the training to work on a generator they deal with the Power after it is produced not in the production faze. If you guys have any Q's about generator please feel free to drop me a line and if I do not have the answer I have about 200+ friends in my field that can get the answer.

I want a diesel generator some kinda bad so I can hook it up to my heating oil tank. Man I hate keeping 20 or 30 gallons of gas around the house. I'll go half with you on the book, order it.

He indicates in the site that the generator cost him $800, but "With a few simple modifications, I put together a $7000 generator for less than $2000." $1200 worth of mods?

remember that a 3 phase gen is three single phases put together. you can isolate 1 phase of this or you can isolate all three phases. it costs lots of money and unless you have the will power (and an old gen sitting around) to do it then it realy is not worth it. as for it cant be done well yes it can be, they do it on Airplanes all the time with 3 phse gens. i am not going to get into how you do it because it is long and if you dont know what you are doing it can be dangerous, (lots of sparks and flames , sure would look cool) any ways guys as for the guy being an electrician, he might be an industrial electrician in which case he might actually know what he's talking about. or he might be a house one. electrical is electrical, all the same therie's just applied with diferent wire and equipment. not meaning to start any problems here, take it at what its worth have a sparky of a day
