I do believe that the case for biodiesel over fossil fuels has been made and it will be a much better alternative than either ethanol or hydrogen. In fact, unless hydrogen can be produced from solar power (photovoltiacs) or nuclear power there will be no advantage to using it at all. In order to produce hydrogen gas from fossil fuels the fuels have to be burned (pollution) to produce the electricity which is then used to produce hydrogen (electrolysis). The total system efficiency will be less for hydrogen fuel and the total pollution will be greater as a result. Ethanol is more toxic than biodiesel and is harder on engines.
Hydrogen must be used in fuel cells to be efficient and it's use in piston engines is difficult to control since it is so explosive. Fuel cell technology is not compatible with heavy transportation systems but biodiesel can be used in diesel cars, trucks and railroad locomotives with little or no modification. It has very little storage and handling problems. Hydrogen and ethanol are much more dangerous.
BTW next time you need to dump some bio can you dump it in my tank?
Edwin
We had some B100 that accidentally was contaminated with a little gasoline. Put it in the sprayer and used it under the fence line. That was about five years ago, there are still no weeds growing under the fence.
