Best diesel trans

For drag racing whats the better BUILT Auto or which one would you put behind your CTD.

If I had to choose between the factory trannys I would tke my chances with either the 68rfe or the Allison.

For strictly drag racing, the 48re is probably the best on the list. You don't need 6 gears for a drag race and since the 48re is designed around 4 gears, it has better spaced ratios.

If you want to tow, that is another story. A 6 speed transmission is going to be a lot better so you would choose either the allison 1000 or 68rfe.

For towing I'd go with a Ally 2400 5spd with 3.54s or 6spd with 4.10s

It has a better spread then the 1000 but a lower 1st

For drag racing, the Allison is a dog.. The shifting mechanics in the tranny are the time determining factor. There was a great post a few months back on how the Allison actually shifts and its NOT a drag tranny.
