You need to have some help,so you do the math 20 mpg@ 3.69 or 15 @ 3.19(if you are lucky)
diesel is running 18 cent a mile and the gas is 21 cent a mile.if you are towing double that cost on gas,or 42 cent per mile
1/2 again on diesel, or 27 to 30 per mile.
so the answer is no,NO,nada

I am going to switch to my Honda cbr600rr for the summer. And use the dodge for just towing. My bike easily gets 37mpg and that is 50% city. That will also save me $350 just in insurance by switching the truck to occasionnal driving.

Here's some math I came up with. Correct me if I'm wrong.
My diesel averages 17 mpg on summer fuel. Mixed towing, hauling, city, highway.
My friends almost exact same truck with a 6 litre gas gets 12 mpg highway/city with no hauling or towing usually. But I'll use that number since all trucks are different.
My typical mileage: avg. 80mi/day x 5 days/week= 400 mi/week.
400 divided by 12=33.33 gal of fuel used x $3.35 (price I saw today)=$111.65/week
400 div. by 17=23.52 gal of fuel used x $4.15 (what I paid today)
=$97.60
$111.65-$97.60= $14.05 fuel savings per week.
Purchase price of diesel option $7000.00 divided by $14.05=498.22 weeks divided by 52= 9.5 years to break even.
But that doesn't include the value of pulling up beside a gasser when you're rattling away beside him. They always let you go first off the light because they know they don't stand a chance!

I would not switch as I use my truck to tow our travel trailer. My work truck is a Chevy 2500 with a 6.0 and towing it is lucky to get 10MPG and strains in the mountains. The Cummins tows over the same mountains without even breaking a sweat and gets 16 to 17 towing. I guess it comes down to the question do you tow or haul heavy loads, if not do you really need a full size truck or could you get by with a mini truck or a car. If you need the full size truck you will not save much by trading for a gasser.

I AM looking at going back to a Denali.
My o6 would get 17-19 on the hiway running between 70-80mph. The newer Denalis actually get better mileage.
I gave up on the RV lifestyle we were going to persue the way fuel is going, so I would get a better ride, comp mileage and pay .80 less per gallon.
I just had my dodge software updated by the dealer. It runs smoother, (today driving to WI) if I keep it under 70mph, but hand calcs show 16mpg.

Going back to a gasser comparable to your truck? Not worth it. Going to a small gasser? Yes, it would be a cost saver. I keep an old Corolla around just for that reason.
