General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Anyone thinking about switching to a gasser?

Anyone thinking about switching to a gasser?

In the long run, will I save any money?

I don't see diesel dropping anytime soon.

And I love my truck...

I had heard of gasoline predictions hitting about $4 a gallon by may..who knows if its true...but i would no trade my cummins for my buddies 06 dodge with the hemi. he only gets about 10 mpg in town and maybe 14 on the interstate.
but he probably deserves it based on his driving style

Nope, I'm hooked to a trailer every weekend. When pulling a gooseneck with 10 large round bales I still managed 13.9 last week and I get 15 mpg pulling my horsetrailer and I am fully aware of what the other trucks with gas engines get mileage wise when towing. Besides the fact that I can run in the 12s in the quarter and still pull down 20+ mpg when running empty and my truck is also paid for.

After having a Chevy gasser and towing trailers and then moving to the Cummins, there is NO way I'll go back... I give up a little fuel economy in town, but make it up towing and highway mileage... plus I love the turbo whistle... (yes, I've vain!!!)

probably not....even though it was $97 to fill up yesterday. The hp/tq and mpg go out the window w/a gasser.

In trucks/SUVs, no... I would not switch to a gasser. "Downgrade" from a truck to a gas car? Now you're onto something. I bought the truck because of the Cummins. Why in the heck would I want to pay a lot of money in fuel for a Hemi?

hahahha, I just had a vision when reading these posts, its like going to a self help meeting and sitting down and saying "Hi, my name is Ian, and I am thinking about a gasser"....then all the diesel boys come out and rescue us from our evil thoughts.

I know I felt better about having a diesel after reading these posts. so the answer is no, not gonna switch.

I seriously considered getting a new Yukon Denali but they cost as much as my new ManVan. I just don't think I can live without a Cummins powered vehicle anymore. Once my engine breaks in and starts getting better mileage then it will all be worth it. I'm hooking up my trailer next week and pulling it around for no particular reason other than breaking the truck in. It will cost me in extra fuel next week but hopefully after that the mileage will increase some. If you guys haven't driven a new 6 speed auto powered truck with the exhaust brake then you need to. It's awesome!!....

The way I see it...

If you have a diesel to pull a heavy trailer, then there is no justification to go backwards to a gasser. If you don't pull a trailer, then you probably have a diesel just for fun.

With diesel prices being so high lately, I think about it a lot. Especially since I had a Jeep Wrangler before my truck, and I miss it to death, especially in the summer time. But then I get in my CTD, go down the road and run it up through the gears. I hear the turbo whistle, the bark coming out the tailpipe (straight piped ofcourse) and feel the sucker plant me back in my seat, even at 75mph when I punch it. I could never go back to gas Now, if I could cram a a 5.9 cummins into a jeep, I might be onto something
