Anyone able to go backwards in performance/capability?

Just wondering what you all think of this. Maybe it's been discussed before. But I don't really tow/haul anything much anymore. I folded my business end of 17 as I make more now working for a company with WAY less hassles. The truck in my sig is my DD (though I have a car too) but it's obviously overkill for hauling some tools to job sites everyday. I do love the truck and it's performance, sound and economy but it's aggressive and ridiculously overkill. I'm happy to say I have a little daughter on the way in January and have been thinking it may be nice to have a crew cab something or other. I'll also be working in the winter now which I never did before. So the cummins never really warming up unloaded even with front cover is obviously not as nice then a gasser would be. And the dually obviously sucks in the snow too. So on one hand, I look at what I could get in a crew cab half or more likely 3/4 ton gas for what my truck is worth and think a clean, mellow smooth and possibly quieter truck with more room may be nice. A little lower to get in and out of the back of and 4 tires instead of 6. On the other hand, I have a hard time believing I wouldn't instantly regret getting rid of it and have a real hard time with half the power AND half the fuel economy. Has anyone ever gone backwards and not regretted it that wasn't like like retirement age? I'm 36 fwiw. I also think that with where prices are now, if I get rid of this it may be hard to get back into something like this. I would never buy another new truck but if I did diesel is a no brainer. 10K extra up front to retain over 50% more on the back end. But in the used market you can get SOOOOO much more truck for the money with gas. My other idea would be to keep the truck and get an SUV for the DD and tool hauling to work stuff and winter driving. Once you go the route of diesel performance is there every any going back? haha

That's where I am at. Our new Suburban was a slap in the face compared to my 01 Ram, regarding comforts, ergonomics, quiet power and just general practicality. My work truck is currently an 07 F150 that is also a bit futuristic compared to my Ram. Problem is I've always liked knuckling my own junk and I love my truck. I don't have a hobby car anymore so the truck is kind of it. Paid for and reliable and maybe just don't want anyone else to have it just yet......plus it gets me to the mountains in a hurry...

Smarty has several settings and works great doing just that, Smarty and pac brake, I go up or down with a change of tune and
with the new Smarty downloader it is a breeze.
