Another unhappy Ferd owner...

My salesman has a neighbor who has a brand new F350. It has less than 5000miles on it. He just drove down to South Carolina and before he got there he started having serious engine troubles. Turns out both head gaskets were blown and two pistons were damaged. Dealer fixed it and sent him on his way. On his way back he once again started having serious engine troubles. This time the engine has locked up tight!!! He paid over $45,000 for this truck!!!!!!
I feel sorry for the diehard Ford fans that refuse to buy something else. I mean, what do you really get for your loyalty? Does Bill Ford send you a Christmas card or a gift?
On the other hand my best friend sold his 01 Cummins truck and got a 6.0 Excursion about a year ago and other than a drip from the rear main seal from day one, he loves it. It is a really nice ride....

I can't imagine how frustrating that must be. Too bad the ford guys just talk bad about us. We just feel sorry for them and their blind brand loyalty. What ever happened to researching something before you buy it?

I second this!!

I pretty much stopped looking at "the diesel stop" after I saw numerous Dodge/Cummins and GM/DMAX owners getting beat to a bloody pulp over there. Sure, some probably were looking for trouble, but most were not!

If I paid $45k for a truck and lost headgaskets in the first 100k miles, I would seek at least a formal apology from the company. I would also want old '96 12V back...oh yeah, that's why I'm still driving it...

Dodge would really have to screw up for me to buy any other diesel. I love this truck!! I shopped seriously for a year before I bought my diesel and I found this forum and all the helpful people on here had me out looking for a dodge with in a month and once I pulled the trigger four of my other friend were right behind me in buying dodge's. We all work our truck very hard and in over 175,000 the only thing that has gone wrong is 3 blown injectors on my truck!!

Love dem Dodges!!

I drove nothing but Fords for years , worked for Ford , get the Ford discount but came to the conclusion I just can't afford one . I can buy one cheaper then a Dodge , it is just all the hidden costs down the road that got me . After my last Ford transmission died and it already being the third in 60,000 I traded it in on a brand new 91 Dodge Cummins . I then got my wife a Dodge and both were great , she had over 230000 on hers when my son started driving it and still does , mine is still running great . My biggest problem with the Dodges has been my mechanical ability has gotten rusty , the Fords kept me more in tune . On the Dodges all I do are brake jobs and regular service if that changes I will change again , got spoiled .

What made you keep a truck that had two trannies replaced before 60k? I'd be fuming to get a decent tranny in my $45k truck. I wonder if ford owners know that other manufacturers' vehicles last past 40k with no repairs other than general maintanance? Boy would their faces be red

Seriously though, when I read that some of the big HP guys (there was no 6.0 when I read this) ceramic coat their engine and all related parts I almost had a heart attack. Can you IMAGINE how much that would cost???

The only reason myself and a lot of other Dodge owners have the truck is because it has a cummins in it. If the Ford had one and the Dodge did not, I would be driving a Ford now. Personally, I don't know which service dept. is better, except that Ford gets a lot more diesel practice.

For 40+ years I owned Fords. Had both cars and trucks. I still have 2 Ford gasser trucks, srw and drw with 460's in them, one is a 1988 and the other is a 1989. When I was considering a new diesel truck I drove right past the Ford dealer to Dodge, not one second of hesitation. All of my Ford friends had been all over me to get rid of my 'antiques' like they did. I have heard about so many problems with the Ford diesels from all of them, and the complaints were all the same stuff. I will give Ford credit, all of my friends have been taken care of without so much as a whimper out of Ford, but, over and over all the same problems many times.

I too, like nelrod, would be in another Ford if it had the cummins in it. I also know that I coul have moved up a chassis size and got a Ford with the cummins. I am very happy with my Dodge and would probably buy another down the line. Time will tell about how I feel toward their service departments if I have any problems. Truthfully, I have never in the past had a truck that required any warranty repairs, and I am hoping that this one will follow suit. Since I have not had trucks with all the electronics, this stuff is new to me, and it may well be that I will be in for some service because of the computer related stuff. If that is all I have to deal with, I will be a happy Dodge owner.

Thats the only reason I want a dodge. I'm a GM guy but when it comes to diesels Cummins is the only one for me. If GM made a solid axle 3/4 ton with a cummins I'd never want anything else. But dodge has cummins so thats what I want.

I'd never drive another ford because of their crappy steering, crappy interior (falls apart), crapy trannies(dodge is just as bad), crappy engines. I think those are good enough reasons. And this is all from personal experience not my friend'sdad'sgrampa'suncle'scousin'sson'sbestfrien d'sdaughter'sboyfriends'dad'sboss telling me this so

The reason I kept the truck after the first two transmissions went out is because back then I was one of those Ford guys with blinders on , I just could not see anything but a Ford . I had a few Chevy's but they were way worse then the Fords and one VW diesel that went to over 400,000 and was still running good when I sold it . Ford has some good things on the market and so does Chevy I just do my homework now before I buy . When it comes to a full size van Ford has the best , mini I like Dodge and in cars they all have winners and losers .

I guess as I got older I did get a little smarter in that respect and dumber in other things . My wife and I just spent a week researching a new gas stove before we made up our minds . It seems like I need to get burned before this attitude kicks in , the last stove an Amana is only 5 years old and the one before it a Caloric was even worse . I have wasted a lot of money over the years on impulse buying and with the Internet some could have easily been avoided .

To be honest, I was a checkbook signing away from a Ford. I read all the posts about the bad engine trouble and the powerchoke, but I also read the posts about the numbers of trucks that Ford sells and thought I would gamble and hope to get a good one.

As I was on my way into the dealer with checkbook in hand, I realized that the whole reason I was buying a new truck was because I was tired of all the problems I had with my Chevys. I had not driven a Mega Cab at that point, so I at least decided to give them a try. I liked the truck a lot (obviously), but I loved the particular Ford I was going to buy (Harley Davidson F250). There are times when I think about what it would have been like to own that Ford. But when I think about standing there with the checkbook, one thing crossed my mind..... WHY should I have to HOPE that I am going to get "one of the good ones" when I am paying $50K for a truck!

I bought the Mega and couldn't be happier. So far I have not been in the shop for anything but recalls (which I don't mind since nothing really failed yet... and no cost to me). Hopefully this truck continues on the path it's on, because it has already done better (out of the shop), than my last two Chevys.

Rock on Dodge. Open your eyes Ford.
