too much $ in my opinion, and more maintenance.changing out gears in rear is about 1/4 the price of gv

Gear vendors are cool, but if you haul heavy may not be the best choice. Plus the service interval is not long at all.

US Gear, when I looked into them I contacted a very reputable diesel shop and they had dropped them due to warranty issues, and other various customer complaints.

So I just gave up after that and now I am thinking about doing a rear gear swap. In the end it will be less expensive by a bunch compared to the others.

Someones got a gear vendors on one of the diesel forum classifieds for sale for $1000! They can definately hold some power, one of the diesel rail's is running a gear vendors... Using it as 3rd gear (first two gears are the powerglide tranny), over 100 passes at full tilt when shifting the gear vendors and no issues... I think they are in the 7 sec quarter mile times now!

I know several folks who have both brands of overdrive, not one has reported better fuel mileage. Speed kills mpgs, not rpms.
They do work excellent to fill the wide gap inbetween gears on a manual truck when you're towing heavy though.

gear swap for a 4x4 is about $1200... gear venders is like $4000. Although a gear venders would be sweet, u could have the 4.10 gearing when u want, but then get the highway gears like 3.5's when u want.

speed kills mpg not rpms? when at high speed you have high rpms so how does that work? lower rpms + higher speeds= better mpg right? higher rpm+high speed=low mpg.

I think the best mpg rpm is 1750-1900, so drive how u are gonna most the time as find what speeds u drive mostly, and set ur gearing up accordingly. I have a gear calculator that u can enter tire size and gearing etc for the different dodge trannies to see what rpm and speed u'll be at.

Aerodynamic drag increases at higher speeds killing mpgs.
Way to look at it is it takes X amount of energy (fuel) to move Y amount of weight. Rpm has nothing to do with the amount of energy used. I know it seems logical that when an engine turns faster it's uses more fuel but load on the engine has way more influence on fuel used.

I recall one of the overdrive vendor's website even saying their unit would only increase mpgs slightly.

Yea it would, it's just a spreadsheet that updates when u change tire size, rim size, gearing etc... So u can play around with setups until u get the rpm and speeds u want. All u need to know for it to work with ur chevys trans is the ratio's of each gear, and just plug those into any of the other trans info.

If you are running 80 mph @ 1500 rpm or 80 @ 3000 rpm which would get better fuel mileage?
