Well, after quite a bit of trying, I think I will be limited to driving an automatic. The whole process to make it legal is just too expensive and I fear even then I won't feel comfortable. Our crude little setup worked okay, but there's no way I would try in on a public road. Thanks for all your suggestions and help.

Well, it was a good exercise anyway. Deciding not to do it because it makes no economic sense is different from not being able to do it, eh? Good luck!
