95 Gmc 6.5 Td

Anyone know of some good sites (Free) for the 6.5L diesel?
My wife drives the cummins in my household, I just bought myself a 1995 GMC 6.5L commuter vehicle. By the way her license plate frame says "that's a pretty big truck for a little girl".
Thanks Dan

The stanadyne pumps on them leave something to be desired.

Remove that $2 piece of plastic over the injector pump and save yourself at least $700 for a new module or a bigger ticket for the pump.

Get an aftermarket exhaust or at least the downpipe from the turbo. The turbo outlet pipe looks like a piece of licorice bent and bashed. Save yourself on power there.

Thats about all I have learned on those. The DieselPlace.com is free and has lots of good GM info.

if it's a 1/2 ton, disable the egr system RIGHT NOW, if it already hasn't been disabled. real easy to do when you toss the plastic "turbo power" cover into storage. take a #6 panhead screw [about 1/2"-5/8" long] and insert it thread first into the egr valve, then re install the vacuum line. the 95's won't pickup the system being tampered with [no mass air sensor iirc]

http://www.kennedydiesel.com sells some performance stuff for the 6.5td's and has 3.5" exhaust for them

and the dieselplace is a pretty good free forum for the gm diesels...

And try not to haul or tow heavy loads with it, those crankshafts are very brittle!

One more web soruce for the GM diesels is thedieselpage.com.

The fuel injection pump is the weak link on those engines. It will not tolerate high temps. As suggested, remove the plastic pump cover. Someone did a study and found that the temp of the electronics on the pump increased as the fuel level drops; this suggests keeping the tank full especially on those really hot days. Also use a fuel additive like Stanadyne Performance Formula. GM increased the warranty to something like 11 year or 125k miles on the pump.

Thanks for the information and Links...
Truck has an aftermarket FSD cooler on it.
New injection pump.
Rebuilt engine ($7700.00) 11 months ago.
Plastic cover already removed by previous owner.
Replaced 2 upper ball joints on the weekend.. easy on a GMC..
