86' ford 6.9 diesel
I've got a ford truck ive build for offraoding, it's got a solid axle about 10" of lift and 40" swampers. the old 6.9/4speed in it runs awsome and has plenty of power to move it through anything, but i want to make it a little cooler, can i put an injection pump/injectors off a 7.3 idi? i want to make it smoke a ton i'm gunna put straight pipe stacks on it. i already cranked the govener screw on it but i want more! (btw this truck never sees pavement)

Isn't the injection pump the same on the 6.9 and the 7.3?? As far as injectors I am sure you can swap them but their is little Differance in them as far as I know probably be better off on having the cracking pressure on your existing injectors turned up some. If you want some more smoke put some engine oil in your fuel and add a little propane for extra power

never thought of engine oil ive got access to lots of parts trucks, what do you mean by the cracking pressure? is it the same as pop off pressure? I just want to make this beast belch out smoke (for the crowd)but not loose power

I had a freind who decided to turbo his 7.3, we took the injection pump off and had it rebuilt and set for extra flow for the turbo. put the pump on and tried it before installing the turbo, it would blow smoke like crazy but it actually lost power. It was just to rich, put the turbo on and then all was well.
