7.3 ford auto trans question

My brother in law pulled his camper (9klbs) up to the mountains and when he tried to back the camper up hill into his camp site most of his trans fluid came out. The trans seems to still be working and several people have told him he is probably OK since the trans still works. What do you guys think.

(He had call me to bring my dodge to put his camper on the site, Not that I ribbed any about that)

My brother has a 96 psd and is on his 3rd tranny. Truck has around 120k on it. Sounds like Dodge isn't the only ones having trouble. I couldn't tell you exactly what went wrong with my brothers- I believe all were covered under warranty though. CJ

Yeah if they didn't fix the design flaws (tons of them with the E4OD) the rebuild would not last. With updated parts they seem to be a bit better.

The same thing happened to my buddy while backing up his driveway with a 5ver on his Ford. Apparently the tranny gets very hot and the fluid will blow through the oil pump seal.
BTW, he has almost 70k miles on his '99 F350 SD and it's getting ready for it's third tranny.

I would suspect it may blow out through the vent on the top of the trans after it gets hot. The E4OD would suffer alot from heat. An aftermarket cooler usually worked well.

When we had the Exucrsion all we did was change out the TC. I had put about 35K hard miles on it and 25K "good" miles. And we never had to change the tranny out. Even with me racing it on the 130hp setting.
