General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Re:6.5L whistle

Mom and dad just got an 04 Dmax/Allison. Talk about a sweetbutt truck. It smokes the tires with just the slightest powerbrake. The tranny keeps the truck in it's powerband perfectly. The downshifting when in Tow/Haul mode is down right cool. It rides smooth. It's quiet (it's mom's truck so that's a good thing, it's about to change though ;D). It drives very easily. It gets pretty bad mileage though. 16 mpg running 70 mph. Hopefully with a few more miles, it will increase. If something should ever happen to my truck and I have to get it replaced (stolen or totaled or what have you), I'm seriously considering an 01-03 Dmax. :

Hey guys, I was searching the city for an idle up system and came across two options. 1) a toggle that is linked into the computer that jumps the rpm's to 1070, and 2) an idle controll module for setting the desired rpm. My question is that there is a $350 difference in price between the two, and i'm not cheap but I wanted to know the advantages of having a programmable idle advance on the truck. Is it worth the extra cash??? Winters are brutal here and even in the summer my rig idles for hours a day during estimates and such so the idle up is deffinately needed, but which one and whats better for me. What else does the programmable one do??? Thanks in advance.

Re:6.5L whistle

Hey everyone,
Picked up the 6.5 today...new idle advance switch, K&N filter, and 3.5" mandrell bent exhaust straight piped and complete with a new aluminized downpipe and monster 5" chrome tip. I am so happy to have gotten rid of the Cat.. AND...I finally got the turbo whistle i've been looking for for a month now. Does it ever sound awesome (kinda ear piercing for someone who dont appreciate such a thing though i'm sure)

So...a big thank you to everyone out there who helped me out and gave me advice on how to spend my coin.
