I still don't really trust my replacement boost gauge. I can hear the turbo whistle during light to moderate acceleration, but there is no boost reading unless I'm really on it. Bear in mind I usually shift around 1800 RPM, but it seems my old gauge registered a boost reading far more often. Cruising at 65, I see around 5-7psi, and I've seen a high of 22 while towing with the replacement gauge. Normal city driving, I rarely get the gauge to move... Can someone please chime in and tell me what you are seeing, and whether hearing the whistle means I'm building boost that should be readable???

I don't think the noise of the whistle means boost. It just means the turbo is spinning up.

Boost will be built up when the exhaust gases get hotter due to loading the engine and then the turbo will be pushed into building readable boost pressures.

Your boost pressure readings appear normal to me.

 

Your pressures seem about right. But any time that you are giving it fuel you should see a boost reading. Unless the analog guages aren't acurate down low, mine is digital

 

Mopar: Sort of what I thought, but I'm not sure if that is entirely true?? Does it build boost whenever it's reading fuel, or does it require engine "load" to build boost? That is, gentle to moderate acceleration may not read boost, but heavy footing it will? I'm in the dark on what boost actually is, and when it comes about...

 

It does need load yes, sitting still reving the motor will make no boost.

On mine any time I give it even a little fuel you will see the boost come off "0". The only time it is on "0" is when you are coasting totaly off the fuel.

I do have the EZ with boost elbow but I would think you should still see some boost any time you are accelarating.

 

A friend of mine has the EZ and elbow on his '03 also, and he sees boost **** near anytime he touches the throttle, too. Part of the reason for my questions... Does the EZ and elbow generate boost more liberally under light throttle conditions, or is this normal for a stocker like mine too, meaning my gauge is hosed up?
