6.5
Place where I work bought a 6.5 for a work truck :'( and me being bit by the bomb bug and all, was wonderin what mods can be made to the clunker besides airflow. Can't figure out why they didn't get a real pony, maybe I need more smoke and ponies for those times I drive by the office and try to make it disappear(the office) to convince them next time.
carty
Re:6.5
I used to own a 6.2......
I'm sorry...
Seriously - a real good source of information on General Motors Diesels can be found at TheDieselPage.com - Jim Bigley over there has a pretty lukewarm 6.5 running in the 300 horse range. Heres the article on Jims truck.

Re:6.5
I have heard the best trick is to fix the turbo down pipe. It has more bends and kinks in it than it requires..

Also the plastic cover that says 6.5 is worth about $2000.. That is, get rid of it as the heat in the engine well eats the pumps out...

Bout all.. The 6.2-6.5 Diesel page is pretty good too.

J-eh

Re:6.5
You can turn up the fuel with a 3/16" allen. It's under the fuel sol. cap with 3 small bolts. Just make sure you disable the glowplugs, you may have to bump the engine over to get the hole lined up. That's what did me in, I had to bump one over and didn't kill the glowplugs....RUNAWAY!

try these:
http://www.peninsulardiesel.com/

http://www.kennedydiesel.com/

The peninsular place has some real perf. engines, even a twin turbo 400hp 6.5
Re:6.5
Had a 87 1/2t 4x4 w/6.2 put in a banks turbo then got bit hard and bought a 6.5, peninsular marine injection pump 300hp model, marine injectors, gear drive and used the banks exhaust...it dynod at the back at 302hp and 511tq was great runnin truck cept for the tranny... shoddy tranny shop promissed they could build a 700r4 to handle it...no dice...shredded 3 tc's...had to trade it in in Fargo ND on a 2002 1ton CTD...totalled that and now have an 03 3/4t CTD..the 6.2-6.5diesel page is a great site for the chebbies...they are cheep and easy to work on if you have a mechanical pump..the lectric ones are more difficult...good luck
Re:6.5
My dad's got one. Replaced an injection pump at 70,000 and glowplugs and lift pump at 60,000. Alternator at 70,000 also. Tranny is fine and we tow a 10,000lb gooseneck once a week and I powerbrake the you know what out of it. Took the airbox completely off and added flowmaster duals. Helped a little. Smokes better than mine. :'( So I should take that plastic cover off?

The last time it was out of time warranty...not milage warranty and GM prorated the repair at 1200 (good riddens).
