Is the 5.9 going away?

Just wondering if the 5.9 will be replaced completely in 2008 by the 6.7. Looking to buy a new truck and don't really want the 6.7.

Production of the 5.9 stopped right around the first of this year so if you want one you'll need to go looking asap

I don't believe anything is wrong with the 6.7 but it appears the additional emissions equipment is giving some folks fits. Pretty common 1st year stuff. They will get the bugs worked out and the 6.7 will become the new 5.9.

Patience is a virtue often missing in today's culture.

5.9 can't meet the emissions standards for 2010 which is why they created the 6.7 - and it is this emissions stuff that people dislike about the 6.7 - not the engine as grant said above..... hopefully the bugs get worked out and people figure out how to get rid of the emissions junk - which is being worked on already. Glad I got my 07 5.9 for now - by the time I am ready for a new one, this stuff should be worked out.

You are likely right, they will get the bugs worked out. However, I don't think consumers should be expected to be "Patient" while a manufacture perfects their malfunctioning product. I want to get it, turn the key and drive my truck worry free. Not have a $40,000 Beta Test.

...then wait a year. It's no secret that the first year for things like new motors are troublesome years. Although it does seems that GM is having a much better time of things than DC or Ford.

That's precisely the reason why I wanted the 5.9 when I bought my '07.
When I told the dealership that this is what I wanted, I got a strange look...they had two 5.9s that had been sitting for several months.

I want that too, and I want a personal jet, a mansion in Hawaii and a billion dollar mutual fund. It really is a shame that none of these things are realistic.
Everything will break, it is the nature of things.
