vp44 going away?
vp44 going away?
Being a diesel virgin till about a week ago, I have learned alot from this site. That being said i need some help. My main problem now is ahard or no start when hot.
I had lift pump issues, which gave me the dead peddle issues. Since replacing the lift pump, no more dead peddle. After a week or so, I started having a hard start when hot, mainly a no start problem.
I talked to a diesel mech. tonight and he said something about the feul shutoff may be sticking. Could this be true, or an I just grasping at straws. I think its the injector pump, but my wallet still doesn't believe me.
Thanks to all for any help,Sean

If you had a bad lift pump, chances are it took out the VP44, sad to say. You need to check the computer for codes, e.g. the deadly PO216. You can bump the key three times and watch the odometer to see any codes. I suggest reading all the posts here about eliminating the fuel pump/VP44 hazards. One of these is by using a VUlcan kit to relocate the lift pump to the frame amd also the installation of oversized fuel lines, which also comes with the kit. And most of all, either a low fuel pressure warning light or gauge to monitor your fuel pressure. Good Luck!
