3.3 vs. 4bt

I've been looking to do a smaller diesel conversion for a while and was thinking I'd do it to my early Bronco however the wife just got a Jeep TJ and I think thats gonna get the first swap. The weight and price difference really have me leaning toward the 3.3. I am wondering about the vibration though that has really been holding me off of the 3.9. Do the 3.3s vibrate as bad as the 3.9s? I really like the fact that the 3.9 is pretty easily dropped in due to all the things already out there for the 5.9s. also what about a Mercedes TD? are there adapters to mate these up to a modern manual tranny? They are smooth running and last "forever" so why don't people use them?

You can check out my thread on putting a B3.3T into a jeep YJ for one way to accomplish a swap with this engine (https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/....php?t=112807).

I am not very familiar with the 3.9, but the Cummins guys I've interfaced with state the 3.3 has much less vibration than the 3.9. It also weighs much less.

I've been following your thread on this. Great work by the way. Do you know what the service life of that engine is supposed to be compared to say a 3.9 or 5.9? Since you put the intercooler on have you had to do any more hood modding? If you had to do over again do you think a 2" suspension lift would be in order to alleviate axle to pan clearance? or is stock height doing fine?

Haven't found any information on the service life. The warranty was unlimited hours of operation for 1 year, then 2000 hrs/2yrs total coverage. Cummins states in some of its literature (see linked thread) that the 3.3 family has the least warranty issues of any engine in their lineup.

Had to cut a little more out of the hood for the intercooler, but the cuts are completely under the functional hood scoop.

If you are planning on rock crawling then a 2 inch lift would be good. I'm using some extended front bump stops and have no issues, but I'm not crawling either.
