20mpg+ Durango
Dear Chrysler,
Please drop the new LD Cummins engine in a Durango with the 2-mode Hybrid Drive. It would get at least 25 mpg, sell like hotcakes and make my Prius-driving neighbors "green" with envy. I'll buy one for my wife...promise!

diesel with two mode hybrid, i hope your rich
While a diesel engine and the two mode hybrid would be the optimal solution (at the present time) for moving larger vehicles around, the actual implementation of such a system would be cost prohibitive.
When the two mode hybrid comes online, I would expect a 4-5K premium to have the system, the tahoe's pricing adjustments for the system should be out soon and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Then tack on another 4K-4.5K for the new 4.5L Cummins V8 coming out and now you're talking in the nieghborhood of 9-10K just for the powertrain.
Plus I don't know if it would all even fit into the vehicle. The Durango is only a midsize platform (in the grand scheme of things) and fitting all this stuff into that size of vehicle is not going to be easy, so it if fits, expect to loose some cargo space and definitely loose some towing capacity. The diesel will surely be able to handle the weight, but they would have to beef up the truck significantly to deal with higher loads the engine is capable of coupled with added weight of the diesel AND the two mode hybrid system.
I really like the idea of it, but I don't think that in that vehicle it would be the greatest thing to implement, frankly, I'd just rather have the diesel, 'cause I know if 5 years I won't have to replace the stinking battery packs that will run into the 3-4K range just to keep the hybird working.
Just my .02
