2010 Proposed Mileage requirements

According to CNN, the feds are currently discussing legislation that will require all cars, SUV's and pickup trucks to get a minimum of 35 mpg by the year 2010. I wonder what the compromises will be since the talking is just getting started. I hope I can still afford to buy fuel then!

It might be, I thought I heard 2010. In any case, it will still be interesting.

throw a 10spd and a splitter in the truck and drop all the speed limits to 55 and I may be there!

i think 3/4 ton and up will be exempt from that requirement. I'm already exempt from smog testing here...anything over 8500GVWR just gets a visual smoke test....I just hope they don't get us euro style pick-ups...they're the size of a 1990 corolla and have a box in the back with one leaf...case and point here:

Please don't tell me they are front wheel drive.

I'd like to try pulling my sailboat up the ramp with that.

LOL

[EDIT]

Well... I guess I might like it a little more like this:

2020, "fleet average of 35mpg" (not every vehicle), and it will include lt trucks, suv, and vans (assuming under 8k or so).

I'm going to have flash backs to the 70's of Mustang II and V8 gas engines that pump out a wopping 110hp

AMEN!

Though if they would get their collective heads out of you know where, and build cars with a DIESEL, and not just econoboxes, ( >>>CHRYSLER<<< ARE YOU LISTENING? Build a CHARGER with the Bluetec 4 and a 6 speed!) They could be there and not lose the majority of acceleration, nor would they have to make them tin cans and kill a bunch of us.

But hey, what do I know, I'm just a puke Dieselhead Mechanical Engineer.

Well, I think the whole point is to reduce emissions.

Bluetec meets all proposed emissions including 2010.

MB will have the C220 here with the same 4 cyl. I dream of DC putting in the Charger.......
