2006 ford 6.0?

Alright so Im looking at a ford powerstroke. I swore id never own a ford especially a 6.0 but... price dictates haha. the 06 ford is Cheaper than the mega same year and options. by a good chunk, almost 5k both on same lot. Did they get everything worked out by 06? Im asking on here because i dont want a war on the diesel stop haha

There is a reason it is cheaper and its not the mega cab/crew cab issue

Got a buddy, still has an 03 Ford (6.0). Hes on third Turbo. He had fuel leak, spraying everything down. All the 6.0s end up with turbo something going wrong.

Not to beat a dead horse, but do yourself a favor and stay away from the 6.0L of any year...I found out the hard way, I wish I would have done more research back then.

Ford has spent $550,000,000 fixing the 6.0's for owners. Navistar and Ford settled months ago. Ford sued for damages and was awarded some to soften the blow. I'd buy a coil-sprung Ford if it had the Cummins in it. The new frontend knocked 5.5' off of the turning radius. Those things are turds with the leaf springs up front.

The 6.4's aren't much better. Read of many issues with them also. Not as bad as the 6.0's though. Tow heavy with them and they puke....

I wouldn't touch a 6.0 even if you gave it to me. But, on a side note, I have a friend with an 03' 6.0 that has about 125k miles on it. It's never had any kind of catastrophic failure that's typical of the 6.0's. Other than an oil drip here or there, it's been fine. He drives it like he stole it, and it just keeps coming back for more...surprisingly.

I was looking at the Fords before I bought the Dodge and I did a bunch of research on the truck and the Navistar 6.0 engine. Ford/Navistar made a lot of updates to the motor over the years but the fundamental problems were never really addressed. The biggest problems were the barely adequate head bolts and the variable turbo vanes. They never upgraded the head bolts until they went to the 6.4 and there were some changes to the turbo vanes but the basic system didn't change. Other problems with the EGR cooler were never really solved either.

An 06 or 07 Dodge with the 5.9 has a far better engine but there are potential weaknesses with the Dodges as well. I don't care for the Dodge 48RE 4-speed auto and it's the main reason I went with the 6.7. The MegaCab interior is much bigger than the Fords and if you plan to have three people in the back seat there are some other advantages. The MegaCab has full seat belts with a shoulder harness at all three seats in addition to headrests for all 3 rear seat passengers. The Ford has only a lap belt and no headrest for the rear center seat.

A friend of mine had a F250 w/ a 6.0psd in it. Truck was an 04 or 05 and he bought it new. He ended up getting rid of the truck at 45,000 miles. He had tranny issues, turbo issues, and drivability problems with it. He left the truck bone stock during his ownership of it for warranty reasons. He towed moderate to heavy loads with it alot. Said he never had any problems with his 2000 F250 w/ a 7.3psd and wishes he never got rid of that truck. Anyways he ended up buying an 06 3500 dodge CTD w/ 6spd. He never though he'd ever own a dodge, but he does now and he loves the truck. He was the friend that always made fun of me for owning a dodge, and when I found out he bought a 3rd gen...did I have one heck of a time giving him crap!

I went back to July 2009 Diesel Power Mag. for this stuff....

6.0L problems for 2006. (problem-cause-solution)
EGR Cooler- Restrictive rectangular design-Replace or clean EGR cooler
Turbo failure- Lack of internal turbo groove- Replace turbo (2007 they put a grove in the oil passage so the soot wouldn't gum it up so fast)
Oil rail plug(s) leaking oil- O-rings fail- Replace oil rail plug.

if you want info on the other years send me a message with an e-mail address that i can reach you at, and i'll send you the info.
