Dodge needs to get off there butt and put the 5500 on the street. Ford has the only alternative for towing a large fifth wheel without going to a class 7 single screw tractor.

Why bother, next year Ford will have a 750 with a 5.9L Cummins and an Allison 2500

Uh, ford already has a 750 with a 5.9. And you can get a 7spd eaton in those trucks.
Next year, Ford will have to go to the 6.7L ISB if they want to retain a Cummins option.

I think a 5.9 would be a little on the lite side for a 750. An 8.3 or C9 would be more like it. I'd find a single screw tractor or a 650 dressed out as a hauler before the 750. The 4500 and 5500 will use, I've heard the 6.7 cummins turned up, with whatever auto tranny that Freightliner is currently using for that class truck.

The auto 6 speed that is to be used in the 3500 chasis cab is limited to 650 ftlbs of torque we believe, there by the rating on the 3500 of 610ftlbs of torque.

I was just thinking the same thing. F550's are not cheap and he probably has $25k in the swap unless he got a real good deal.

Ok, I just read all the posts on that (TheDieselStop) thread seems like a lot of those guys are trying to figure out why the guy pulled the 6.oh no, and why the engine didn't feel powerful enough to the F-550 owner....must have been something wrong with it yeah, it's powerstroke

Owner prob had an engine crap under warranty with some mods and the dealer didnt want to pay....LOL

I like the conversion, but I agree why would you shut off your own warranty before time. Heck even the powerjoke carries a 100,000 warranty. And I think most dealers would hesitate on any type of powertrain warranty. I say there is more to the story than meets the eye. But then again, what do I care

I will say while at the Ford garage, we had a 2005 F-550, crew cab, 4x4, mechanics body with a 6,000lb crane, outriggers, and high rail wheels for the railroad. It honestly was a beautifull truck, Nice 19.5 Alcoa's, running lights everywhere, and 5.38 gears. The deepest that Ford offered. On a 6% grade it wouldnt do any better than 45mph, at 29psi of boost, just too much truck for too wimpy of an engine.

Also Ford has been offering the 5.9 Cummins for years in the F650 and F750 trucks, and isnt that funny that a smaller cubic inch engine(5.9 vs 6.0) is ok for heavy usage, and thier own terd is a minority(its offered but as a different configuration; VT-365)

The motor was fine. Just gutless, sucked fuel, and about as trust worthy as a Washington politician.

Rick did it because he needed a bigger truck than his ram 3500, but needed the reliablity and power of the cummins.

F-550 & 5.9 CTD=Match made in heaven

As for the dealer and warranty, what good would it be if even after they fixed it, its still weak and a pile of junk???

Max, i couldn't have explained it better myself..sometimes the Ford boys just don't get it..an F-250 automatic shortbed is DIFFERENT than a huge heavy lumbering F-550 6-speed..

Moose10: That's a breather..but he has the red Cummins 24 valve valve cover ready to put on and relocate that thing!
