My employee has an 04 F350 4x4 extra cab shortbox. Its one of the prettiest trucks on the road. Pretty doesn't count when its always breaking down. He loves the looks and power when its running good, problem is its rarely running good. He has an overhead camper and all the extra packages to haul it and every trip he gets stranded...heater hose, turbo hoses, check lights..you name. I tell him he's insane to let the dealers do all his maintenance but he's afraid if he doesn't he'll lose his warranty.
This is just one event but buyer beware!

My '98 CTD does the same work, plus pull a boat, and I have driven it cross-country many times and through Mexico twice. It has the all the original rubber parts except for serp belt and fuel supply/overflow. I have never had to do repairs or maintenance on the road. When I was doing research prior to purchase, I was leaning towards the Ford because of their marvelous high-tech engine. I bought the CTD because of its reliability reputation.

Yikes!
Does your friend like to play Russian Roulette too?

Send your friend over to a FERD diesel forum.

Tell him to read the threads of 6.0 owners having or had problems.
Look at how many of those engines were replaced, how many
FERD bought back (and probably re-sold . . . or "for sale" *hint*)

One biggie - read how many FERD owners with 6.0 engines are
"two time losers" - original engine replaced, second failed also.

If you do that - you're doing all a "friend" could do!

I just read the current Darwin Awards. One of the winners played Rusiian Roulette with 4 of 6 chambers loaded. Results, a Darwin Award!
If all 6 chambers were loaded, that would be a Ford 6.0.
Have your friend get a CTD! What are friends for?
