1999 2500 Quad Cab
1999 2500 Quad Cab purchase!
So I found a 1999 Quad Cab 2500 4x4 with 45K on the Cummins and a 6 SPD. They want 19K for it. I think I might jump on this, any worries? I don't want the same problems I had with my 95 1500. What kinda of mileage can I expect? Also I plan a AFE Dry filter, Quadzilla Adjustable Xzillaraider Module, Stacks. Anything else I should consider besides full gauges?
Well I guess the swap from Chevy to Dodge will take place, it might be a good thing to see things from the other side.

I only paid 13k for mine and it had 126k mi on it.. Bumpers had minor damage to them but besides that not much else banged up. Oh, and my tires still don't match, heh. But if my overhead computer thingy is accurate, it says I get 20.7 mpg. Most my driving is interstate though.
KBB says the 18995 in pristine condition. This truck looks factory fresh, must of been an older driver that barely drove it. I think I am going to low ball them and see what I can get them down to. If it is a 53 block, what are my options from Cummins, I have read up on the block cracking and such. Also can I ward off the lift pump with a holly or FASS?
Well I have ran across a 02 2500 Quad Cab 4x4 short bed 6spd with 67K on the clock. I think I am going to look to that one. The mileage is still low in my mind and the fear of the dreaded "53" is gone. Also I have been missing "grabbin gears" so the 6spd is good to go in my book. So a VP44 might be needed, This truck will have a relative easy life with only daily commuting and towing duties of a 4 spot Tandem axle quad trailer with four 800lb quads on it. In the future it my be tagging a Fleetwood Scorpion.
I am getting diesel craving disease and need to cure it some how, I love my Silverado and love the Duramax but that sound a 5.9L puts out is too dam good to pass up.

So I call about the 2002 Quad Cab SLT 4x4 HO 6spd near my house and you know what they want for it!! $26000, he said its got a pristine interior....That does not mean that they can charge 7500 more than NADA has it listed. Wow what a fooking rip off! I am going to go out with this information and tell them how it is!
Take a look at it and tell me:

How many "53" blocks have actually cracked? And of those that have, were they stock or "built to the hilt"? But I'd would be cautious of the LP. It would need upgrading immediately
I'd get it, it the price is right.

Right on, I am going to call them on Thursday after letting them think I am coming to look at it and tell them that price isn't right and I don't think I will be out, See you can't bull **** and bull shittier!! On the other hand they are willing to give me 14K for the Silverado which is want I am looking for. I am going to make them chew this down to $18500 or walk as I know of a 2003 with less miles and right about 22000, or just get the 1999 and deal with the "53" block.
Believe me I have seen 01 and 02s priced at about 25,000 at some dealerships and I just want to call them and ask what book they are getting prices from because there is no bank that I have dealt with that will give you that much money for a truck that old. I got lucky with my 98, it had 72,000 on it with a price of 12500 on it. There are better deals out there.

As for Mileage my '99 gave up to about 21 MPG on the highway.... Short trips and cold weather could bring it as low as 16 MPG or so.
I replaced one lift pump on it (actually swapped it for one taken off the feed truck) and some cracked injection lines over the years. That is all the engine parts I ever replaced on that truck.
