1/2 gas 1/2 diesel
went to an old tractor/equipment junkyard last weekend, just to look around. some weird stuff there, including this. i saw it from a distance, and said "that looks like a big v-8 diesel". then i looked at the other side. that side was a gasser! it used to power a large air compressor made by leroi, for the military. first pic of the diesel side, second pic of the gasser side.

International made diesel engines that started on gas, spark plugs and all, then switched over to diesel for many years. The stock gasoline "tank" was a quart glass jar.
Perhaps that's what you saw.

no, i know what the international engines were. i have seen i ton of md's. this is totally diffferent. look at the pictures. one bank of the v-8 is diesel, the other is gas. i doubt that that both banks were intended to operate at the same time. i assume that if the only fuel available was diesel, one would run it on the four diesel cylanders, vise-versa if the only fuel available was gasoline.

Was there a crank driven compressor at either end of the crank?
The side that y'all say looks like a diesel, looks like the cylinders that compress the air to me,.....if exhaust wus flowing through that manifold then it wasn't very hot.....still has paint. Maybe that is the intake for the diesel , but it sure is small for an Intake.
I'll be quite now LOL

Just a plain ole guy
I'd bet that it was a complete compressor. 4 cylinders ran on gas, the other 4 were the actual compressor. I've seen a Ford v8 setup like this before. The top of the cylinders on a deisel engine would not be linked with copper tubing.
