If toy could just build a truck that looks like a truck, that would make a lot of difference. I know what's underneath counts for a lot, but the overseas half tons just don't look like, well, trucks, you know? Plus, there's lots of folks with the little 5.9 getting 350/655+ and will the 6.8 ever realize the fuel economy of the 5.9? Gimmie a first gen (ok, I'm biased ) with a boxed frame, full air ride, stacks and a nv5600

Depends. What kind of aftermarket accessories are available and what the body style looks like. Im not too fond of the current body style.

Toyota has a well earned reputation for problem free vehicles, and from what I understand these import brands may be more American built than so called American brands, but I wonder if Toyota grasps how people use (abuse) heavy duty trucks...

If they came out with something equivelent to a 5500 series pickup, with full size crew cab, Cummins powered, that got good gas milage, and looked good... I would probably wait a year or two and see how owner's rate it... then maybe.

It's all about engineering! Most Toyo's are Japanese engineered and US built. I just can't imagine some engineer in Japan designing a real truck when they live in the most populated, congested, poluted place on earth, where everything is engineered to be compact, economical and clean.

Now you all know Dodge Rams are made in Mexico . What's interesting is that Dodge still makes 2 ton trucks there too . They won't market them here because they'd compete with the Freightliner FL series . Same as dropping the Ram van when the Sprinter came out .

Im doubting it. I dont like the way most toyotas look for one thing. I would also have a hard time buying something thats diesel besides a ford, chevy or dodge for some reason? If dodge still has the same setup they do now, if the toyota came out, and i was looking to buy a truck, the dodge would probably be it. But if dodge dropped the cummins, I would give it some good thought; but even then only if it looked "truck" enough.

As long as it got decent mpg, and had a quality manual tranny, I would be there. Heck, even with a good auto I would buy one.

So, does the new Durango/1500 styling look 'truck' enough?
The Ram's will look like them in '06 on up- looks too much like a mini-van clone than a real truck, to me...

You bring up a good point, but it will grow on me some. I didnt like a lot of the newer styles that i like now when they first came out. I still like what they have now much better, but i guess i could live with it. One way or the other. I wont be buying a new truck anytime soon anyway(im 17), and even if i did get rid of mine, im picturing another 12 valve before getting anything with an electronic injection pump.

would i buy it? unlikely, because 1) sticker price would probably be over $50k and 2) when toyota offers a rare incentive, its usually like $750 or some weak figure. when this truck is released it will sell for over sticker at first. i would not buy a truck in its first production year no matter who made it.

One rumor my brother heard is Nissan is considering the Cummins 5.6L V-8 if they decide to put a diesel in a full-size pickup. He works at a Nissan dealership, take it for what it's worth.
